Gotta Leave This Town

We wrote this song to bring attention to a worldwide phenomenon. Housing has morphed from an essential that we all need, to an investment asset sold to the highest bidder.    Young people, especially those that work in tourist destinations, have been crippled by this affordable housing crisis.
We all know people who have had to leave Canmore because housing has become too expensive. The Liveability Tax is one of the only tools Canmore Town Council has to address the affordable housing crisis.   Similar taxes have been used by towns and cities across Canada (and other countries) that are facing similar issues.   It works.
We want Canmore to be “Everybody's Home Town” - not a community that busses in essential workers. If you agree, then Watch, Listen and Share this video with your friends. Most importantly, get engaged and vote in the 2025 Canmore municipal election.

My neighbour’s working as a coffee baristaPourin' latte’s with a joke and a smileSide hustlin’ as a weekend waitressShe often wonders if it's all worthwhile
(Happy Whistles)
Were building up a lotta fancy houses McMansions for the ones from far awayThey fly from house to house across the oceanThey wanna come, but they never stay
We wanna live in our home community. Our kids are going to the school in our townWe're working hard to afford to stayOur rent goes up, we gotta leave this town
My Town, Your town, Everybody's HometownMy Town, Your town,  Everybody's Hometown
Plumbers, nurses, and construction workersTeachers, bakers, drivers ploughin’ the snowBlessing our Town with spirit and lifeHavin’ babies so our town can grow
Look around at all the empty housesHow we ever gonna pay our way? How’d we ever get so gentrified? Our rent goes up - Our rent goes upWe gotta leave this town

We wanna live in our home community. Our kids are going to the school in our town. We're working hard to afford to stayOur rent goes up, we gotta leave this town

My Town, Your town, Everybody's Hometown. (We just wanna live happy life)My Town, Your town, Everybody's Hometown. (We just wanna live happy life)My Town, Your town, Everybody's Hometown. (We just wanna live happy life)My Town, Your town, Everybody's Hometown. (We just wanna live happy life)
