Kingston-based Jake Hawley (he/him) has been a photographer/videographer since 2013. His work began right here in his hometown of Kingston, Ontario, where he photographed an array of artists and performances throughout the lively art scene of Kingston. (Including Busker Festivals, live music, and Voodoo Rockfest).
In 2018, Jake moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where he grew his practice of capturing wildlife, portraits, and spent 3 years photographing whales. In 2023, Jake returned to Kingston to connect back to his love of music photography.
If someone were to ask what he liked most about shooting music, he’d say “The challenge. You only get one shot to capture something that no one else ever will at a live event, there are no redo’s.” Jake especially loves the challenge of getting shots of the entire band in one photo, as well as drummers, who he considers to be the bane of music photographers. His style mimics the vibrance of the Kingston Art scene, focusing more on the color and the life of a live music show.
Being from Kingston, you can’t help but be surrounded by talented musicians and want to be immersed in that world. “Live music will never die, so take in what you can before you're gone.” Currently, Jake is collaborating with Kingston-based ‘The Wilderness’, and hopes to one day shoot for his favorite artists The Dirty Heads and Unleash the Archers.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
